In 2019, she was a Silver winner in the Digital Health Media Fall awards, in the category media/publishing for the audience of health professionals, for her feature on gender dysphoria: “It’s Complicated: Docs Say Gender Questioning Kids Need Better Science.”

In 2011, she came third in the Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ) Awards for Excellence in Health Care Journalism, for her feature on congenital heart disease: "Lost in transition: The looming epidemic of grown-up congenital heart disease."

She was a member of theheart.org team that won the Online News Association Online Journalism Award in the category of Specialty Site Journalism-Independent in 2010.

In 2004, she won the Society for Women's Health Research Excellence award for her article: "Pregnant pause: Evaluation of pregnant women with heart disease" and the same year came second in the European Medical Writers Association Arthritis Writing Excellence Award, Medical Press category.

She graduated with a BSc (hons) in physiology from Sheffield University, UK and began her career as a poisons information specialist at Guy's Hospital before moving into medical journalism in 1995. She is based in London, UK. She can be contacted at
