SAN FRANCISCO — Along with first responders, healthcare workers in pulmonary and critical care have borne the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it's not surprising that a large proportion have suffered from burnout, a syndrome characterized by chronic workplace stress, emotional exhaustion, cynicism about the job, and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment.
