Dear Medscape Colleagues,
So much innovation and so many technological advances have occurred in recent times that I thought I would put together a list of my "Top 10 for 2015," that are changing or soon will change the face of medicine. These are not in any rank order. I'll give a short description of each and why I think it's especially important.
Genome editing. This is a big deal for advancing the science of cancer biology and mechanism of disease, especially with the introduction of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPRs) and even more efficient, precise ways of editing a genome. The first patient whose life was saved was a young girl with leukemia whose T cells were edited using transcription activator-like effector nuclease (TALENs).[1]
