Our 2014 Physician Lifestyle Report provides a revealing look at physicians' personal lives, including dietary habits, use of alternative treatments for their own health, and level of happiness at work and at home. This comprehensive report, with new questions and insights this year, represents data from more than 30,000 US physicians.
Over 24,000 physicians in 25 specialties responded to this year's Medscape Compensation Report and described their compensation, number of hours worked, practice changes resulting from healthcare reform, and adaptations to the new healthcare environment.
More than 4600 doctors told us what they like and dislike about employment and whether they plan to remain in their current situation. Although there are plenty of benefits to being employed vs in private practice, there are some clear downsides. Doctors who had previously been in private practice told us whether they were glad they made the switch or whether they regret it.
Medical school debt is a hot topic, so Medscape set out to focus more closely on medical residents' salary, debt, and their overall experiences in residency. More than 1200 residents across 25 specialties took part in an online survey; the recruitment period ran from June 20, 2014 through July 7, 2014. All participants were enrolled in a US medical resident program.
Insurers play a huge role in the financial lives of most physicians, and they also create some frustration. More than 6300 physicians across 25 specialties took part in an online survey from July 9 through September 21, 2014, and told us how they feel about the leading insurers.
